Chapter 19 – “Inebriated Son”

The whole thing about this story is the emotional issues Bon, Konekomaru, and Renzo. It’s more on with Bon’s emotional problems and how it affects the Order in a way.

The story starts with the past of Bon and continues to insert these scenes in the later parts. We can clearly understand the reason why Bon grew up with a short temper and has come up with a serious determination on his studies.

Meanwhile, the two who had an internal discord were scolded by the Father of Mamushi. If you think about it, it feels kind of stupid that they showed this scene wherein it isn’t really that important for us readers to see it, but as how I see it, there’s something at the end about “lending their ears” but sadly, we’re left with not much idea what it’s all about.

On Bon’s side, he makes a request to go to the mountain to meet his father, however, the idea was rejected by Shura, their captain of squad. We all know that it’s too risky, and demons start coming out at night. To end their day, they get to eat those bento. When they go out (together with Rin), Rin asks if they could eat together. He knows very well the situation he is in that he “isn’t accepted” by them as their friend or to distance themselves, however he doesn’t give up with the friendship they just build up at cram school. Rejected by Bon and Konekomaru, Renzo’s the only one that’s left he could ask for. Surprisingly, he didn’t ask for company but was kind of angry at the fact that they’re scared of him when there’s nothing really to be scared of. Fortunately, Renzo just couldn’t come up with any excuse and could only eat with Rin. They start having a normal, casual conversation and it seems like they just got well now. And at least Renzo also thinks that they were too serious about him being the son of Satan or so.

On the other hand, Bon, left alone, was told that all the Myou Dha are under investigation, that they may have some involvement with what happened right now. Meanwhile, on the chase of the Left Eye, they find out that the driver of the van was dead because of miasma.

With a short peek, this really does have something to do with both of the eyes being attained. The Left Eye seems to have been worn already, and it’s still bothering me on what would happen if these Eyes were taken by the same person. I mean, I’m thinking: Would they gauge out their eyes for something like this? That’s just…

The improvement of the episode was great. The characters did something well to improve themselves and Rin, himself. There wasn’t that much except for the views on the characters, and the surprising taking of the Left Eye.

Rating: ★★☆
Stays strong, yet it still doesn’t go to the point directly. It’s taking time, but it’s great for character development. However, it’s not great enough.
