Ao no Exorcist 14 – The Justice System Is Fast Here

Best Demon You Could Ever Have

Chapter 14 – “Gamble”

It was really surprising to see the limitless power of Mephisto Pheles. He’s like a god from the world of Gehenna. The two big examples of this is him being called by Amaimon an older brother and the power in which he, without a sweat, put the Earth King in a cuckoo clock and made it disappear just with “Adabracadabra.”

In the end between the intriguing fight we loved, Okumura Rin totally wins this match, even just by looking at the fact that he’s looks like he’s still on a rampage with those blue flames. I’m quite happy for that – the natural power he has – but the end result was most likely worse than that: losing his friends.

With the huge destruction they have caused, the new Paladin and two more Exorcists appear to handle the situation. This supposedly means that there were other Inspectors that haven’t revealed their identity yet.

Surprisingly, the new Paladin, Arthur Auguste Angel, has some issues with this Shura girl, mainly for the reason why she hasn’t exterminated Rin, despite the evidence of him being in link with Satan. Just a few moves from them, we can definitely tell that this Angel guy is an Exorcist in a whole lot level from Shura – almost exactly the same feeling when you see something that’s almost impossible at the status of their strength.

Rin, then, for being revealed of who he is in front of his classmates, the friends he gained and finally built it on trust, almost totally disappeared to nothingness. The reactions that were the most striking were Bon and Shiemi (as they were the only ones showed). The drama was definitely great here, but it was stiff on Bon. I can’t really tell why, but maybe it’s because the chapter before, they’d go talk about how “You can depend on us [friends],” and then it all turned into, “Why the hell is that goddamn Satan here?!” Bon is someone idiotic on a side, short tempered too, I understand that, but it was still stiff. He should’ve at least showed a reaction similar to Shiemi about how she was out of words at playing with Satan’s son and to finally show the fact how she was hurt about that truth with the tears. Sure, it’s all girly and more fitting for her to do that, but really, I think Bon should have at least realized more than that when he said something about ‘friends.’ We all know that at this time, it all comes down to the irony, but in the end, it becomes more and more stupid if the drama keeps on giving you the trying hard feeling.

The breaking of their talk and drama was definitely separated at the right time. Really cliché, but still the best thing you could ever have. With another damn magic key, the newly-appeared Exorcists and Rin immediately go into the courthouse, already with the people in need to be talked about (which proves that they have a really faster justice system than in reality). Mephisto makes his clear explanation right in front of them, but with the suspicions we, the readers, have, it’s only best to say that he’s either on the side of Satan (but which Satan doesn’t really need) or the power to conquer the world of Gehenna and then, Assiah. Everything else was followed by Rin’s anger and Angel’s out-of-control wrath to cut his head off. Somewhat surprising, but it was, then, decided that he be spared but must follow conditions.

Seemingly, we only get to end with one condition told, to pass the Exorcist Authorization Exam in 6 month’s time. The rate this is going, it’s most likely going to be focused on the drama of his friends and few real Exorcist fights from time to time. Good, too, that Rin has really been acting better and has begged Shura to teach him how to use the sword.

But sad to know, Shiemi, the only person that would sit beside Rin, will feel nothing but hatred and pain towards how he was with Satan’s son. They even made a promise – and, although it sounds really cheesy, it’s what hurts the most.
